The Writer Who Doesn’t Write
Do you know what happens to the writer who has never written? Or what about the writer who writes and then stops? What happens to the writer who’s too busy to write or too scared to write? Slowly and slowly and bit by bit, his or her writing magic loses its spark.
Now, it doesn’t completely go out. No, it’s just repressed. They will always have the power to write, but when so much time goes by, writing gets harder... and frustrating. It takes more time for them to find their mojo. Even worse, they’ve lost precious time and deprived others.
Deprived of what you say? Well, for starters, they deprive others of wisdom, inspiration, and motivation. Some deprive others of how-to’s, tips, and tricks. Others simply deprive by not sharing their talent for poetry and story-telling.
You see, writing is not an option. It’s a calling, which means the choice to write really isn’t yours to make. Yes, you can say you have free will, but when God gives you a gift, you don’t squander it. You feed it, and in feeding it, you’ll feed others.
So, write. It’s that simple. Create and prioritize time to write, and protect that time. For the hectic lifestylers, write in the crevices of your time. Write during meetings; write during lunch; write at your kid’s practice; write while dinner is cooking; write while the laundry is spinning; write during commercials. Just write. Your brain will thank you. Your heart and spirit will thank you. Your readers will thank you.
“I believe purpose is something for which one is responsible; it’s not just divinely assigned.” – Michael J. Fox
